Out of all Biblical Prophecies, "Wars and Rumors of War" is perhaps the single most terrifying warning God ever published, because we all know just how far mankind has progressed in its ability to destroy mankind, plant-life, and animal life on a global scale. With literally THOUSANDS of nuclear weapons of various types, and with who knows what kind of high-tech weapons that we don't know about, it will only be a matter of time before we decimate the planet!
There are so many threats to world peace right this minute, it's hard to say which "skirmish" is going to suddenly erupt into a regional war, or a major global war. I have served in the military since 1968; I retired in 2005. Probably the single event that impacted me more than any other was my first trip to the Middle East theater. In October, 1973 it just so happened I was with a Marine unit serving aboard a US Navy Amphibious Landing craft. We had just left Turkey after completing a NATO training mission; We pulled into port in Athens, Greece for what was supposed to be a liberty stop of three days. Less than six hours after we dropped anchor in Athens, we were all herded back on board ship, with orders to steam at best possible speed back to Egypt to evacuate US Citizens other "friendly folks" because the Yom Kippur War of 73 had just kicked off. That was only one of many "skirmishes" that served to point out just how "unstable" our global situation really is. Things have gotten much, much worse since then!
To date, the United States is involved in no less than 3 major on-going conflicts:
Iraq and Afghanistan are both "our wars" as extensions of the Global War On Terrorism that we initiated with the horrible attack on September 11, 2001. Since then, we all know just how deeply we've been involved throughout the Middle-East theater. In addition to Iraq and Afghanistan, we're working behind the scenes in Mali, in Lybia, in Jordan, Israel. We're also facing a fair amount of "doom-and-gloom" from North Korea, which just spent the last month and half threatening South Korea and the United States with impending nuclear disaster (to hear them tell it)...
Because we are so globally connected, we have to be on constant watch to see what other areas of the globe can affect our national interests and security; for instance:
Did you know that China has had troops INSIDE the border of India - it's a small contingent, but they are there - and uninvited! This was reported approximately 8 days ago.
Did you know that there are currently about 40,000 Chinese troops stationed (on high alert) on their side of the border with North Korea (reportedly to help North Korea if they, N Korea, decides to do something dramatic against South Korea or the US on South Korea. Are you also aware that North Korea has threatened Japan over some islands that are (and have been) under dispute by both nations for the past 25 or so years?
Just 3 days ago, Israel launched a series of three aerial strikes against Damascus, taking out a suspected cache of Iranian-supplied Fatah-110 missiles, as well as a suspected chemical weapons cache. Russia has sternly warned Israel (and the United States) to stay out of the fight against Syria -- Russia will do everything in its power to ensure the Syrian president, Bashar Al-Assad, remains in power. Russia has openly stated that they will send advanced missile technology to Syria, along with technicians and advisors. Meanwhile, Iran, Hizbollah, and other Islamic fighters are all lining up on all sides of Israel, getting ready for a "War of Attrition."
And just in case we're all feeling safe and insulated here in the United States, we've had a major terrorist incident in Boston just 2 weeks ago; another suspected attack that was stopped before it got started in Minnesota -- and if you listen to all the "experts" from the US FBI and Department of Homeland Security, and various members of Congress, there are most likely terrorist "sleeper-cells" already disbursed throughout the United States, just waiting to get activated for more terrorist strikes here at home.
There is no chance that the world is going to remain a "safe" place! That is a given! What we need to do is PRAY -- Once again, I urge us, WE THE PEOPLE, to return to our Christian roots. As long as this nation and the people of this nation continue to deny God and to deny God's Law, the tension, the warfare, the ill-will throughout the world is only going to increase. Sooner or later, God will judge us according to our works. Truly, this is a time for sincere repentance!
